Kick starting public health career for the freshers

  • Post comments:2 Comments

Most of the time after graduation everyone rushes to search for appropriate jobs. Everyone gets frustrated when they are not being called for a job even dropping CVs multiple times. The job market is getting extremely competitive in the Public health field or any other corporate field. Likewise, job postings showcase the need for years of experience which is difficult to avail for the freshers.

So, what can we do? and where to start? Let’s debunk the criteria of getting the job for the freshers:

  1. Get involved

Many of us just focus only on the study in our university life but university is the place where we meet different people, get along with them, and learn. Active participation in various cultural activities, managing programs, membership of different clubs, and taking part in organizational activities can smoothen out your inborn skills and give you the chance of expressing your hidden talents. Apart from that, you can always add up your experiences of extra-curricular activities into your CV and showcase your talents.

  1. Do volunteer works

Volunteering is praised in both national and international organizations and institutions. Engaging yourself in volunteer works will not only tailor your knowledge and expertise but also will help you to cope up with the environment, and take you down to humanity. Searching volunteer works can be done based on the works you wish to do such as research, content writing, charity works, etc.

  1. Search for Internships and field works

Internships help to understand organizational etiquettes and hands-on experience with office works. It is very hard to grab a good position without having background knowledge.  Various research organizations employ short-term field workers who are freshers and university students and these experiences help them to get leadership and management skills.

  1. Network and Communication

Networking skill is a must for freshers. In this competitive world, always focus on networking and building communication with faculties and peers who are already in a good position. That’s how you can express your qualities and enthusiasm to work with them. So, start networking from the very beginning of your career.

  1. Skill development

When applying for jobs, always remember you are the product and the resume is the price tag that will sell you. Key skills like communication, critical thinking, time management, and teamwork can be developed by working on research projects, volunteer works, content writing, internships, and other programs. Always focus on enriching your English language skill by participating in debates, hosting ceremonies, etc. This will help you to shape yourself up as a skilled professional.

Availing a degree is the first step to be eligible for a position, but in order to qualify, you need some more skills such as professionalism, teamwork, organizational skills, networking, critical thinking, etc. Academic and professional fields are two different setups, so it is important that you acquire those required skills and prepare yourself for the journey.
