The BRAC James P Grant School of Public Health is one of the top public health schools in
Bangladesh. This one-year course is taught by a variety of highly-qualified instructors from
around the globe. Admission to this program will assist any aspiring public health professional to
take a decisive step into the field.
Admission:
Admissions exams are required for entry into this institution. You may come from a variety of
disciplines, including Medicine, Nursing, and Midwifery, as well as Allied Health Sciences, Life
Sciences or Social Sciences (Anthropology, Public Health, Food and Nutrition, Sociology,
Psychology, or any other relevant Social Science Discipline).
Initially you have to apply for the masters in BRAC university portal and have to submit a
statement of purpose and other pertinent documents through the website. I would recommend
writing the SOP very thoroughly and clearly, citing all of your public health experience and
explaining why you wish to study at BRAC. This statement of purpose provides a solid
foundation for admission and scholarship.
The entrance examination consists of Logical reasoning, basic arithmetic, and English
comprehension. If you pass the written test, you must then participate in the group and individual
viva. The exam is highly competitive; only 20 to 25 national students are chosen out of hundreds.
For the admissions written exam, you can use the IBA/MBA admissions guides for simple math.
There is no particular guidebook to follow, but knowing basic mathematics would be of great
use. I would recommend following the IELTS writing guidelines for the comprehension section.
The group viva almost always discusses recent national and international public health concerns.
I would recommend being very outspoken, without being critical of others, and just talking
about the relevant topic. They want to see you talking, so staying silent will not help you at all.
It is important that you communicate and express logically what you believe. The question
pattern for the individual viva may vary, considering your background and experiences.
Tuition fees:
The tuition fee ranges depending upon the year and the context. But there are many scholarships
available – most are internal scholarships where they provide tuition waiver and also the most
prestigious WHO – TDR scholarship is available for national student studying in BRAC JPG.
You can check the BRAC{ JPG website.
Some tips:
⮚ Write an engaging SOP
⮚ Good marks in written exam is a must if you want scholarship
⮚ Be interactive during the viva
Additionally, be certain about what you want and why you want it. This master’s program
combines classroom learning with frequent field trips. Typically, you will have lessons Monday
through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. But sometime you would have class on even Saturdays.
You can’t continue working and earn this master’s degree. The entire course is taught in English,
and speaking any other language in class is strictly prohibited.
However, this whole experience will be extremely practical and will prepare you for your future
endeavors in the exciting field of public health. If you want to apply for admission here, I wish
you the best of luck, and please feel free to ask me any questions.
