During the greater part of our lives as college students and young adults, we live in a constant state of anxiety. We enter college and the workforce with a shamefully frail understanding of who we each are, but a firm resolve to prove we can succeed in the system. In today’s society, we are wholly bent on proving ourselves to be adaptable, tolerant and hardworking, deeply desiring to fit in, no matter the cost.
There are no ‘classic’ findings of anxiety because each person experiences and reacts towards things in his or her own way. Anxiety can mean a mind that is all too aware of its surroundings. It can mean being a nervous wreck who looks calm and well put together on the outside. Just as there are no classic presentations of a case of anxiety, there isn’t a classic way to relieve it, either. However, there are a few general things we can all do. Because we can do more to change ourselves than we can the world around us, each one of us must do more to find a way to adjust to our circumstances, however unfavorable they may seem to be. This takes time and positive results will never be immediate. Secondly, it is important to engage in habits that are personal to us, which put our minds and rest and remind us of how worthwhile we are. Exercising, meditating, praying, and other self care routines (even taking a hot bath!) will conjointly be of benefit to our physical and mental well-being, allowing us to be the best version of ourselves amidst our stress, all amidst stress packed daily routines. Tackling anxiety must be addressed as a serious priority for every individual, and all it takes is a bit of self-awareness!
