Gathering work experience in the public health sector is very important before you can actually set your career in this field. Various organizations like icddr,b, BRAC, WSIF, CRIDA, CDE, and many more offer opportunities for internships. The procedures of applying for an internship at icddr,b are discussed here briefly for all the public health enthusiasts. 

1. Select your field of interest: The first thing that needs to be done is figuring out your field of interest. Several sectors are available such as mental health, maternal and child health, nutrition, infectious diseases etc. So, choose your field of interest very carefully before applying for an internship.
2. Search for supervisor: Once you have selected your area of interest, search for the corresponding division at icddr,b website. The profiles of the researchers working in that division will appear on the website and you will find a brief about their research activities. Then you can send a formal email to any of the researchers mentioning your interest to work with them. You need to provide your updated CV and also mention why you are keen to have them as supervisor. You may also add a cover letter with your CV. If any researcher likes to have you as an intern, they will communicate and after their confirmation, you can go through the internship opportunities of icddr,b website for filling up the application form. Then the further processing will be done by the ‘Student Service’ of icddr,b. 
3. Duration for internship: The initial duration of the internship is for three months. However, you can extend the timeline up to six months to one year upon the approval of your supervisor.
4. Remuneration/Stipend: It needs to be mentioned that there is no process of stipend or remuneration in the internship program at icddr,b. This is a period to work hard and learn as much as you can. However, sometimes your supervisor can offer you the position of a research assistant or research fellow depending on the funding for the research activity.  

আইসিডিডিআর,বি-তে ইন্টার্নশিপ করার সুযোগ:

পাবলিক হেলথে ক্যারিয়ার সেট করার আগে পাবিলিক হেলথে কাজ করার অভিজ্ঞতা থাকা জরুরী। বিভিন্ন প্রতিষ্ঠান যেমন আইসিডিডিআর,বি, ব্রাক, ডব্লিউএসআইএফ, ক্রিডা, সিডিই সহ আরও অনেক প্রতিষ্ঠানে এই ইন্টার্নশীপ করার সুযোগ রয়েছে।  কিভাবে আইসিডিডিআরবি-তে ইন্টার্নশীপ করা যায় তা সকল পাবলিক হেলথ উৎসাহীদের জন্য নিচে বিস্তারিত আলোচনা করা হলো:

১.   কাজের ক্ষেত্র নির্বাচন করা: প্রথমেই যা করতে হবে তা হলো কোন সেক্টরে কাজ করতে আগ্রহী তা ঠিক করতে হবে। আইসিডিডিআরবিতে বিভিন্ন সেক্টর আছে যেমন মানসিক স্বাস্থ্য, মা ও শিশু স্বাস্থ্য, পুষ্টি, ইনফেকশাস ডিজিজ ইত্যাদি। সুতরাং, ইন্টার্নশীপে এপ্লাই করার আগে কাজের সেক্টর ঠিক করে নিতে হবে।  

২.   সুপারভাইজর খোঁজা: যখন কাজের ক্ষেত্র ঠিক হয়ে যাবে, তখন ঐ কাজের ক্ষেত্র অনুযায়ী আইসিডিডিআরবি এর ওয়েবসাইটে ডিভিশন সার্চ করতে হবে। ঐ ডিভিশনে যে যে রিসার্চার কাজ করেন তাদের সবার প্রোফাইল এবং সাথে তাদের রিসার্চ কাজ এর সব তথ্য  চলে আসবে ওয়েবসাইটে। তখন তাদের সাথে কাজ করতে আগ্রহী এটা লিখে একটা ইমেইল পাঠাতে হবে। সাথে একটা আপডেটেড সিভি এবং কেন ওনার সাথে কাজ করতে আগ্রহী এটা জানাতে হবে। যদি প্রয়োজন হয় একটা কভারলেটারও যোগ করে দেয়া যেতে পারে। যদি কোন রিসার্চার আপনাকে ইন্টার্ন হিসেবে নিতে আগ্রহী হন তাহলে তিনি যোগাযোগ করবেন এবং তিনি নিশ্চিত করার পরে আইসিডিডিআরবি এর ওয়েবসাইটে ‘ইন্টার্নশীপ অপরচুনিটি’ তে  যেতে হবে একটি আবেদনপত্র পূরণের জন্য। আবেদনপত্র পূরণ করে সাবমিট করে দিলে বাকী কাজ আইসিডিডিআরবি এর ’স্টুডেন্ট সার্ভিস’ ডিপার্টমেন্ট করে দিবেন।  

৩.   ইন্টার্নশীপের সময়কাল: প্রাথমিকভাবে ইন্টার্নশীপের মেয়াদ ৩মাস। কিন্তু সুপারভাইজরের অনুমতিসাপেক্ষে তা বাড়িয়ে ৬ মাস/ ১ বছরও করা যেতে পারে।

৪.   পারিশ্রমিক/বৃত্তি: এখানে বলে রাখা দরকার যে, আইসিডিডিআরবিতে ইন্টার্নশীপের জন্য কোন পারিশ্রমিক বা বৃত্তির ব্যবস্থা নেই। এই সময়টা কঠোর পরিশ্রম করে যতটা সম্ভব কাজ শেখার সময়। তারপরও মাঝে মাঝে সুপারভাইজর ওনার রিসার্চ কাজের ফান্ডের উপর ভিত্তি করে রিসার্চ এসিস্ট্যান্ট বা রিসার্চ ফেলোশীপের অফার করতে পারেন।
