Mothers of a child with disability

Our life is full of experiences. Those experiences make intensified effect on our lives when we try to observe and think about the whole situation. From my observation I am sharing my story.

I have two mothers. One my mother and the other my mother-in-law. Both of them are very kind, sophisticated, pious, and good human beings. They are totally different characters in terms of showing love to their children. One thing which is common in them is they both have a son with a disability.
Let’s talk about my brother first, my brother is 13 years old with autism. He is the most good-looking baby and the best person in my life. My brother had a speech delay. As my family was not aware of it, so when we understood that it was late enough. Due to accessibility and financial issues, my parents were unable to take him to autism school. And years have passed now still the same issue is ongoing. My mother is a teacher and she could not leave her job. But everyone around us always suggests she leave her job and be with my brother.

In my in laws home, there had been cases of genetical eye issues in the family and unfortunately my brother-in-law got that. Despite having this problem, he always had good grades and had been a very good student. When he was 25 years old, it became a severe problem and gradually he became near to blind. And now his age is almost 37+ years. He had been working since he graduated with his eye problems. He never stopped working though he had his disability. He is one of the best person in my life too. My mother-in-law always takes care of him.

When I observe my mothers I see two strong humans surviving through life, smiling and loving others with tears in their eyes. The mental health of a mother with a child with a disability is a critical one. They experience anxiety, depression, fear, panic attack, and sometimes even have suicidal thoughts. They need mental health care and counseling and also kind words from society. Taking good care of them is a must.
