Previously, we mentioned the stress that international students are going through during this COVID-19 situation. Today we will discuss strategies to manage stress.

Free counseling services: In order to deal with this stress, many campus services are providing online counseling sessions free of cost. Many universities are also offering both in-person and online options for courses which could provide students with more time to get back to these countries.

Peer support: It is essential for students to prioritize their emotional well-being and access mental health support when necessary. Support may come in the form of confiding in friends, speaking to a Health & Wellness counselor, or locating local resources for support.

Hobbies: Many people started spending some time engaging in activities that they enjoy during this pandemic. These activities might include baking/cooking, writing a journal/poetry, painting, dancing, singing, etc. All these actions can help with the release of happy hormones and can keep one’s mind refreshed and lessen their stress during the pandemic.

Exercising: Performing physical activity can help promote positive mental health, increases muscle strength and function, and also help maintain healthy body weight. During the pandemic, it is essential for people to engage in physical activity because due to lockdowns and quarantine we are having a sedentary lifestyle. Therefore, in order to keep our physical and mental health in check, we should involve ourselves in activities like yoga, meditation, running, etc.
