Aboulomania, often referred to as decisional paralysis or indecisiveness disorder, is a psychological phenomenon where an individual experiences extreme anxiety or distress when confronted with choices, leading to a persistent inability to make decisions, regardless of their significance. Aboulomania can significantly impact a person’s life, hindering their ability to function effectively in everyday situations.

Causes

The roots of Aboulomania are multifaceted, often originating from a combination of genetic, environmental, and psychological factors. Some individuals may have a genetic predisposition towards anxiety disorders, while others may develop due to traumatic experiences or a history of chronic stress. Besides, negative thought patterns, low self-esteem, and perfectionism may also contribute to the development of this condition.

Symptoms

  • Crippling hesitation and avoidance of decision-making.
  • Difficulty in making seemingly simple choices, such as what to wear or eat, becomes an overwhelming task for the person suffering from the disorder.
  • Experiencing intense fear of making the wrong decision leads to procrastination and frustration.
  • Becoming reliant on others to make choices on their behalf can strain relationships and foster feelings of helplessness.

Let’s wait for the diagnosis and management in part 2.
